7 staycations to book in Hong Kong for the holidays

Travel may still be out of the question for most this holiday, but that does not mean we can’t have a luxury getaway. Here are some of the best staycations in Hong Kong this festive season

For a family holiday filled with festive glamour, stay at the Island Shangri-La’s Nutcracker Suite transformed to celebrate Mr Nutcracker’s Christmas Kingdom. Filled with nutcracker decorations, a Christmas tree, personalised stockings for children, Santa will also pop by. The two-night package includes a Christmas family dinner in the suite, a festive hamper, breakfast at Cafe Too and a round-trip transfer in the Rolls-Royce. HK$88,000 for two adults and two children throughout December.

Island Shangri-La also offers a Christmas Kids’ Camp staycation starting from HK$5,600 for two adults and one child. Children between the ages of 5 and 12 will be entertained with a nature-focused outdoor adventure programme and other activities.

The Upper House

This December, The Upper House is offering the House of Crafts package.  A specially crafted tree is created each year by a leading design studio to put guests in a festive mood. Victoria Tang Studio this year has made a unique East-meets-West concept that draws on Chinese heritage and Western Christmas foliage to create a sustainable, culturally diverse Christmas Tree. The package includes daily breakfast for two at Salisterra and an option of a three-course dinner at Salisterra or The Continental. There is also exclusive access to Pacific Place’s Mt. It’s Christmas Everyday at The Murray

The Langham, Hong Kong offers a two-night festive indulgence staycation, which features multi-sensory experiences with world-class British brands Penhaligon’s and David Austin. Guests will create their customised perfume with Penhaligon’s fragrance sommeliers and receive an exclusive gift of two bottles of their Portraits Collection scents. They will also learn the art of floral arrangement, including The Langham’s signature pink roses, with David Austin’s floral ateliers, and will create their very own bouquet to take home. A Multi-Sensory Christmas at The Langham, Hong Kong starts at USD2,550 for a two-night stay, with 10% of the proceeds benefitting Matilda Hospital.

The Peninsula Hong Kong

For traditional Christmas nostalgia, The Peninsula invites guests to create festive memories with its Wish Upon a Star staycation filled with seasonal surprises. Guests can capture magic moments by taking selfies by the constellation-inspired decorations on the Sun Terrace overlooking Hong Kong’s skyline. Guests also receive a gift of a limited edition Sparkling Blue STAUB cast iron Cocotte pt to cook up a festive feast.

Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong

Get in the holiday spirit at the Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong, which has some of the city’s best harbour views to admire the Christmas lights and the New Year’s Eve fireworks. Throughout December, Eaton HK pays homage to the city’s retro signs and neon lights. Guests can find photogenic spots decked in festive decor around the hotel and neighbourhood, helped by a handy map to track down the best spots.
