Earlier this week, Phillips in Association with Bacs & Russo announced that the company will be auctioning off the “Bảo Đại” Rolex reference 6062 alongside 6 other rare Rolexes on May 13 and 14. It is considered one of the most valuable and desirable Rolexes out there with the “most complicated and iconic Oyster cased model” ever made— according to Rolex themselves.
Experts at the auction house estimate the starting value of the alone watch being at $1.5 million USD, but with its specific significance to history— as it belonged to one of the most controversial political figures in Vietnam’s history, it is reasonable to see bids soar well above $1.5 million USD.
It was owned by Bảo Đại during 1954, features a triple calendar moonphase, is in yellow-gold, is one of three black dial models with diamond markers, and is the only Rolex to have diamond markers at even numbered hours.
The watch was once sold in 2002, making it the most expensive Rolex at the time.
Phillips’ Geneva Watch Auction: FIVE takes place on March 13 and 14 at La Réserve in Geneva.
