Louis Vuitton announced that Johnny Coca has rejoined the French house as its new director for women’s leather goods and accessories. The Spanish designer worked at Louis Vuitton as an accessories designer from 1996 to 2000, and more recently headed up the creative direction of Mullbery for five years, stepping down from the post this March. Coca also previously worked at Bally and Celine.
Coca will work closely with Louis Vuitton Artistic Director of Women’s collection, Nicolas Ghesquière, and will oversee the creation and development of handbags, eyewear and more.
In a statement, Coca said: “I would like to thank Delphine [Arnault], and the LVMH Group for their renewed trust and I am very honoured to return to this prestigious Maison, a symbol of travel and invitation to dream, where imagination meets innovation and the highest standards of excellence. It is with pride that I join Nicolas Ghesquière and the Louis Vuitton teams to further develop the women’s handbag collections… For me, the journey is now back at the starting point, in the place where I was lucky enough to hone my passion first hand and learn the fundamentals of leather processing in the Asnières ateliers. A new chapter opens in my creative adventure, in an extraordinary laboratory that combines heritage and modernity.”
