Dior Homme showcased its autumn/winter 2017 collection in Hong Kong on April 22, 2016 following hugely successful shows in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.
A star-studded affair, The Art of Falling Apart show was attended by an elite crowd of international celebrities including Descendants of the Sun actor Song Joong Ki, Wu Chun, Shawn Dou and Jin Akanishi. Hong Kong’s own esteemed crowd also turned up to the event, including Nick Cheung, Gaile Lai, Kary Ng, Alex Lam, Pansy Ho and Amanda Strang.
This is the first time Dior Homme has staged its international runway show in Hong Kong. Creative director Kris Van Assche pulled out all the stops in typical Dior fashion, decorating the venue with fragmented led screens playing a movie by Willy Vanderperre that starred the same models on the night’s catwalk.
Dominated by a palette of red, black and white, the autumn/winter menswear collection was a hybrid of patterns and silhouettes that brought together military and new wave aesthetics with florals and traditional Fair Isle knits.
“The idea of ‘The Hybrid’ is intrinsic to the collection,” says Van Assche of the collection. “Today, people don’t just fit into one box, they fit into many and all at once. There might be an idea of the new wave or skate that somebody has grown up with, but it is what those things and people have grown into now that matters. Traces of memory and tradition can still exist, but these happen without nostalgia: this is the hybridisation of now.”
