Call it a jacket, call it a shirt – the shacket (which we’ve now learned is a bonafide word is the oversized cross between a shirt and a jacket and a must-have in your winter wardrobe. How do you rock this cold-weather staple? Let us count the ways…
Cropped
As seen on Shanghai-based influencer, Xiao Bai, a matching suit with a cropped version of the shirt-jacket is a great option for dressier occasions. Play up the proportions by revealing a small midriff and pair it with a high-waisted bottom (pencil skirt or skinny trousers).
Oversized
Juxtapose the oversized jacket with something tight-fitting and shorter inside, just like influencer Pernille Teisbaek – seen here in a cream coloured overshirt with a contrasting black tank top, shorts and pumps. For colder months, go for a body-hugging roll-neck sweater and high-waisted leggings with pumps instead.
Feminine
Licheng Ling wears her overskirt with a slip dress and sandals. Feminine, modern and subtle- these shirt jackets are a great alternative to an oversized blazer.
Outerwear
Charlotte Groenefeld of The Fashion Guitar shows us that the shacket is a fun yet functional piece of outerwear, even when running after her kids. Pair it with a sweatsuit (a quarantine favourite), boots and a beanie for a casual look when the temperate drops.
Coordinated
Vanessa Hong styled her Fenty faux leather shacket with matching wide-legged trousers in the same material. While some may feel the combo could be too bulky, there are a few more ways to wear it other than entirely buttoned up.
Try buttoning only the top few buttons to reveal a bit of skin around the waistline, or wear it open with a sports bra or cropped top inside. Don’t be afraid to add bold jewellery accents to an otherwise monotone look.
