More is always more when it comes to Harry Styles and his Grammys appearance last night gloriously delivered. The trendsetting singer revamped a fancy dress classic last night when he wore not one, but two designer faux feather boas to the awards ceremony.
Styles made the hen party classic a sex symbol as he opened the show with a brassy rendition of his hit Watermelon Sugar, pairing a Gucci mint boa with a rock and roll leather suit.
While it began casually slung over one shoulder, eventually Styles danced upstage and cast it away dramatically – revealing his bare tattooed chest underneath the blazer.
Not even fellow star Billie Eilish could keep from grinning as she watched from the sidelines, though the poor accessory was left forgotten in a muppet-esque pool for the rest of the song.
A second feather lilac boa made an appearance as Styles scooped up a Grammy for Best Pop Solo Performance, again for his summery hit Watermelon Sugar.
He and his stylist Harry Lambert proved yet again to be a fashion force to be reckoned with, as they paired the look with a check yellow blazer, brown velvet trousers, Gucci white boots and a very on trend pink sweater vest.
Styles completed the look with a matching check face mask, which he took off for his acceptance speech at the socially distanced event. As he addressed his unlucky competitors Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, Doja Cat, Dua Lipa and Billie Eilish, he thanked them and hailed their songs “f**king massive” in his short but sweet speech.
Over the years, the former One Direction artist’s gender-fluid wardrobe has nearly eclipsed his chart-topping music. While it certainly helps that he’s a close friend of Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele, his and Lambert’s brave and eclectic fashion vision has made the fashion darling one of the most exciting red carpet arrivals today – whether he’s wearing a dress and heels or a white lace boiler suit.
Not even Grammys host Trevor Noah could resist commenting on Styles’ wardrobe, saying, “[Harry will] steal your heart and your dress – and he’ll look damn good doing it.”
“It’s crazy to think that somebody that talented and handsome is from the same place as Boris Johnson. Man, the UK is diverse,” he continued.
