Every year, Earth Day promotes global activities to create awareness on the most pressing issues that are threatening the survival of our planet. Born in the US in 1970, more than one billion people worldwide now take part in the initiatives of the largest environmental movement’s network in more than 195 countries around the world.
In 2018, the event is dedicated to educating and empowering us with information so we can make better choices when it comes to plastic consumption. From littering landscapes to poisoning the marine fauna, the growing consumption of disposable plastic is threatening our planet like never before.
“Plastic pollution is now an ever-present challenge. We can see plastics floating in our rivers, ocean, and lagoons, littering our landscapes and affecting our health and, the future of billions of children and youth. We have all contributed to this problem – mostly unknowingly – and we must work to reduce and ultimately to End Plastic Pollution,” Valeria Merino, Vice-President of Global Earth Day at Earth Day Network, says.
In Hong Kong, the initiatives that support Earth Day grow every year. Show your support with this year’s selection of events, workshops and exhibitions celebrating Mother Earth:
