Fashion collaborations have been a way to breathe new life into brands. It’s particularly interesting when high fashion work with accessible brands to bring out some surprises. Zhao Gaofei Claire looks at some of the most memorable fashion crossovers
Mugler x H&M
H&M recently partnered with French fashion house Mugler for a collection. In working with Mugler, H&M wanted to capitalize on the famous Mugler silhouette, which H&M describes as “strong, broad shoulders, a tight waist, an ode to the body’s curves and lines, a tribute to confidence.” While the collection includes both menswear and womenswear, it retains the fluid look that has always been the core of Mugler’s spirit.
Maison Margiela x Gentle Monster
With Gentle Monster’s experimental approach to silhouettes and Maison Margiela’s definition of structural reorganization, the two brands have joined forces to present a futuristic collection worthy as an infinite tool for self-expression. The genderless collection includes a range of sunglasses and eyewear that draws on their shared belief in experimental craftsmanship. Inspired by classic silhouettes, the eyewear is interpreted through the brand’s signature concept of unconscious glamour. The Gentle Monster x Maison Margiela co-branded collection is available through both brands.
Nike x Tiffany & Co.
Nike and Tiffany & Co. makes for an unlikely yet iconic pairing of two legendary American brands. The Nike/Tiffany Air Force 1 1837 is made of premium black suede and features the Tiffany Blue Swoosh logo and the classic Tiffany logo on the tongue. All Nike/Tiffany Air Force 1 1837 models come in a co-branded Tiffany Blue box. Each heel is adorned with a co-branded laser-etched silver plate above the heel, using the U.S. sterling silver standard set by Tiffany & Co.
New Balance x Miu Miu
Miu Miu got creative and collaborative for New Balance, reimagining the iconic New Balance 574 sneaker while honouring and highlighting its classic heritage. Reflecting Miu Miu’s aesthetic codes, the New Balance 574 is offered in white, khaki and blue, with raw-edge silhouettes that emphasise structure through deconstruction, typical of Miu Miu’s language of rebellious luxury. The shoes made their debuting at Miu Miu’s Spring/Summer 2022 show in Milan.
Gucci x Adidas
After their successful partnership last year, Adidas and Gucci have joined forces again to launch their Spring/Summer 2023 collection. Their crossover offerings will provide everything from fisherman’s hats, handbags, sportswear, jackets and much more. The highlight of the new collection comes in the form of a hard-sided trunk with 12 pairs of Gazelle sneakers from the Gucci x Adidas collection. Featuring the GG Crystal canvas, the Adidas three stripes and the collection’s logo, this piece includes a pull-out footrest and a mirror. The first collection between Adidas and Gucci was launched around the same time last summer, with former Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele taking the Adidas classics and giving the German sportswear brand a luxurious remix.
