Patek Philippe bids adieu to its cult-favourite Ref. 5711/1A Nautilus line with a pair of brand new eye-catching models at this year’s Watches and Wonders.
Following the Swiss brand’s announcement that 2021 would be the final production year of this stainless-steel model, the Patek Philippe Nautilus 5711/1A marks the occasion with the release of a new olive green sunburst dial and a variation, the Nautilus 5711/1300A-001, which features a unique combination of stainless steel and baguette-cut diamonds.
First launched in 2006 in the occasion of the Nautilus collection’s 30th anniversary, the flagship model highlighted its maritime heritage by keeping to the octagonal bezel with rounded corners inspired by a ship’s porthole. The new olive dial is designed for understated casual elegance, while the sunburst finish assures maximum legibility at any time of day or night. This new shade joins a limited palette of 5711/1A dials that includes blue, black (gradated), silvery white and a rose-gold version.
On the other hand, the Nautilus 5711/1300A-001 – though is essentially similar to the 5711/1A – features a row of 32 Top Wesselton baguette diamonds that are cut to perfectly match the octagonal bezel of the Nautilus case. More than to draw attention to your wrist, the diamonds also function to illuminate the olive-green dial, that is on top of the luminous white gold hour markers and baton hands.
Visually, both Nautilus models are the same, where the case and integrated stainless-steel bracelet alternates between manually polished and satin-finished elements. Mechanically, there’s a slight difference where we find Patek leveling up the self-winding caliber 26-330 SC movement—which features several innovations—with a winding system upgrade from the previous caliber 324 SC that powered older Nautilus models.
It also features a sapphire crystal case back and stop-seconds mechanism for maximum precision, allowing it to be set with one-second. And as with its other Nautilus siblings, the 5711/1A and 5711/1300A-001 offers robust water-resistance of up to 120m.
