From Paris Hilton’s 20-carat now single Kim Kardiashian’s equally sensational emerald-cut number, here are five celebrity engagement rings impossible to say no to
Paris Hilton-Carter Reum
It’s hard to keep up with Paris Hilton’s engagements. Before Carter Reum’s recent romantic beachside proposal, there was Chris Zylka, who proposed with a 20-carat pear-shaped diamond ring, only after her previous close calls with model Jason Shaw and shipping heir Paris Latsis – all of whom went down on their knees with impressive stones.
Reum popped the question at the socialite’s 40th birthday celebration on a private island with a bespoke engagement ring set with a 10-carat, emerald-cut diamond, designed by jeweller Jean Dousset, the great-great-grandson of famed French jeweller Louis Cartier. The bespoke ring also features two trapezoid diamonds framing the centre stone, that’s also surrounded by dozens of smaller stones throughout the delicate setting. The stunner is estimated to cost well over a million US dollars.
Kim Kardashian-Kanye West
Just as we were gushing over Hilton’s engagement, many were mourning – or rooting for? – Kim-Ye’s marital demise. Now let’s look back at the massive 15-carat diamond engagement ring West professed his love with in 2013, made by jeweller Lorraine Schwartz. Estimated to cost between US$2 and US$4 million, the enormous cushion-cut diamond is a D flawless type 2A, surrounded by pave diamonds. Unfortunately, the 15-carat ring was allegedly one of the pieces stolen during Kardashian’s infamous 2016 Paris heist. Good thing West gave her a second ring, which was even more spectacular, set with a 20- carat diamond also by Lorraine Schwartz! Blimey.
Jennifer Lopez-Alex Rodriguez
Alex Rodriguez aka A-rod proposed to the incomparable JLO in 2019 with a 15- to 18-carat emerald cut diamond engagement ring valued at an estimated US$1.8 million. This comes as no surprise as Rodriguez certainly can splurge, as the former New York Yankees player is estimated to have earned some US$575 million throughout his career and still takes home a few million as an adviser to the team. Goes without saying, Rodriguez had to try to match if not outshine the 8.5-carat Harry Winston blue diamond ring given by Lopez’ former husband, Marc Anthony.
Beyonce-Jay Z
Not to be outdone, Jay Z proposed to Queen Bey back in 2008 with an 18-carat diamond set on a split shank estimated at US$5 million, created by jeweller to the stars, Lorraine Schwartz. The massive diamond is an emerald-cut, which is said to have already doubled in value and is touted as one of the most expensive diamonds today. Most definitely fit for a queen.
Mariah Carey-James Packer
For a larger-than-life star like Mariah Carey, only a ridiculously huge diamond engagement ring: a 35-carat diamond with a hefty price tag of about US$10 million. Mariah Carey received this massive sparkler from ex-fiancé billionaire James Packer, who proposed to her at a swanky New York restaurant in 2016. So incredible was this piece that it took Mimi some time to part ways with the mega-carat ring, as she was seen to be wearing it post-break up (I mean, who could blame her), until she reportedly sold it to an LA jeweller for a bargain for US$2.1 million!
