The Louis Vuitton GMT

Louis Vuitton watches have been busy making waves this year, with the release of the 2016 editions of the Escale collection and the unveiling of the Flying Touribillon Poinçon de Genève, a timepiece awarded with the Genève Seal recognising the highest quality of craftsmanship.

Recently, La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton, the horology arm of the brand also revealed the first of its Voyager collection for men, the Louis Vuitton GMT.

Designed with the globetrotter in mind, the GMT complication is the heart of the timepiece and is centred within a unique, never-before-seen case on a Louis Vuitton piece that is midway between a circle and a square. Satin-finished sides and dial with a polished top reflects light off its curves, the perfect finish to what is fast becoming an icon for the house (the shape was also used for the Flying Tourbillon). A mechanical watch with automatic wind, the second time zone is shown on a disc and is calibrated at 24 hours, divided into two colours to indicate day and night. At the centre of the dial is the V: a satin-finished steel bridge that supports the dial, its tip also an indicator for the GMT complication. The V, originally designed by Gaston-Louis Vuitton as his personal emblem, pays homage to the legacy of the House’s original innovator and its commitment to continuing traditions.

The Louis Vuitton GMT will be made available with a steel bracelet or the grained and extraordinarily supple House’s Taurillon leather bracelet, with either a silver or anthracite dial. As a nod to current trends, there will also be an 18- pink gold version, featuring a dark blue alligator bracelet and a dial of the same colour. The collection will be released to stores from June 2016.
