Surfer Gabriel Medina has the coolest of Instagram posts with this gravity defying picture. The Brazillian also made it on our hot male Olympians list.
Simone Biles was not afraid to clap back with her caption “lack of talent, lazy, olympic champions ❤️🥇🇺🇸” on a post about Team USA winning the gold medal. This is a response to former teammate MyKayla Skinner, who criticised Team USA gymnasts in a YouTube video following the team selection on June 30. Skinner blocked Biles after this. This is why Biles is one of the many female Olympians we admire.
The Olympics is as much about what happens after the competition. Chinese tennis player Zheng Qinwen defeated her opponent, US player Emma Navarro, in a three hour epic. Navarro then made salty comments to the media about not respecting Zheng because she was apparently “cut-throat” and also told Zheng to her face that she couldn’t understand why she has a lot of fans. Later, Zheng showed the world she could outplay Navarro in both tennis and words with her classy response, saying “I will not consider it an attack because she lost the match.” Zheng continues her Olympics winning streak, become only the second Chinese player to reach the semifinals after Li Na.
Netizens fell for South Korean sharpshooter Kim Yeji’s ‘main character energy’ when she turned up at the Paris Olympics and won silver at the 10-meter air pistol event.
Hong Kong’s favourite son at the Olympics, Edgar Cheung, made the SAR proud with another gold medal in fencing. However, Italy’s national Olympic Committee has disputed Cheung’s victory with a formal complaint. This has led to an online battle between netizens, with Cheung’s supporters celebrating his win with posts about pineapple pizzas, which is considered an insulting take by Italians on their beloved bread dish.
