David Ho catches TV’s biggest night for a list of the latest Emmy winners
Billed as TV’s biggest night, the 75th Emmy Awards comes after a significant delay from its original Sept. 18, 2023 air date due to the strikes in Hollywood. This marked the most significant delay of the Emmys since 2001 and honours programming that aired between June 1, 2022 and May 31, 2023.
HBO’s Succession and The Last of Us were the top contenders this year with 27 and 24 nominations, respectively. Succession ended up picking up six awards, while The Last of Us ended with eight wins.
Ali Wong and Steven Yeun, the lead actors from our personal favourite Beef, continued their winning streak from the recent Golden Globes. Beef won eight Emmys overall, including three wins at the Creative Arts Emmys, which are a class of Emmy Awards presented in recognition of technical and other similar achievements in American television programming.
Drag superstar RuPaul continued his Emmy winning streak with his eighth consecutive win as ‘Outstanding Host for a Reality or Competition Program’. Sir Elton John also won his first Emmy Award, finally giving him EGOT (Emmy Grammy Oscar and Tony award winner) status, becoming the 19th person to do so. He won in the ‘Outstanding Variety Special’ category for his well-received special Farewell From Dodger Stadium.
