Congratulations are in order for Mr. Han Yew Kong of Galaxy Macau, who was made the challenge winner of the Ruinart Sommelier Challenge 2017 by Ruinart Chef de Cave on February 17, 2017.
The sommelier competed with 30 of his peers at Four Seasons Hong Kong in a blind tasting of 4 wines in 40 minutes, followed by an educational masterclass on how to craft a rosé Champagne by Chef de Cave Frédéric Panaïotis. The participants were also privy to a taste of the latest releases of the House’s Dom Ruinart 2006 and Dom Ruinart Rosé 2004, some of the few bottles shipped to Hong Kong.
The Ruinart Sommeliers Challenge made its debut in 2014 and has been a special event for participating sommeliers who enter to win the top prize along with a sponsored trip to the Champagne Region in France to undertake exclusive training with the Ruinart Maison along with other winners from participating countries. The three-day journey takes the champions on a winery visit, a gastronomic tour of the region and an exclusive champagne tasting.
