This just in – Rosewood Amsterdam will be opening in 2023, hopefully when we’ll all be able to travel again and COVID is finally behind us. This will be Rosewood’s 11th European property and first in the Netherlands, so if you’ve been waiting for an ultra-luxe, five-star stay in the canal capital, start planning your trip.
The Rosewood Amsterdam will be located in the former Palace of Justice, which was originally constructed in 1665 and served as Amsterdam’s main courthouse for more than 175 years. To preserve its rich heritage, its transformation into one of the world’s most luxurious hotels will be a close collaboration between the Bureau Monumenten en Archeologie (BMA), the City of Amsterdam, and Netherlands-based architectural firm, Kentie & Partners.
With a total of 134 guest rooms and suites, the Rosewood Amsterdam houses three different restaurants (including an Indian restaurant) and bars, a Rosewood Spa called ‘Sense’, a fitness and wellness centre, and an indoor swimming pool.
“With a unique character and culture, Amsterdam is a fitting locale for which to bring Rosewood’s guiding A Sense of Place philosophy. We’re looking forward to combining the city’s quintessential charm with a modern sense of style to meet and exceed the latest standards of luxury hospitality.”
Sonia Cheng, chief executive officer of Rosewood Hotel Group
Expect to be wowed by the hotel’s interiors by Dutch designer Piet Boon, who’s known for balancing aesthetics with functionality, while Amsterdam-based Studio Concrete is responsible for designing the hotel’s main restaurant. For the bar, David D’Almada will be leading his London-based interior design firm, Sagrada, to create an intimate drinking den for the hotel.
So where exactly will the Rosewood Amsterdam be located? The hotel will overlook one of the city’s most famous canals, the Prinsengracht (Prince’s Canal) in the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Amsterdam Canal District – just steps away from the luxurious shopping street of P.C. Hoofstraat and hipster neighbourhood of De Pijp.
