Every hotel celebrates Christmas in some way, but no one does it quite as spectacularly as Claridge’s in London. The hotel’s Christmas tree has long been a seasonal landmark for locals and travellers alike. For the eighth edition of this festive extravaganza, Claridge’s is again opting for style. Following in the footsteps of other famous fashion forces including John Galliano, Alber Elbaz, Dolce & Gabbana and Burberry, this year the hotel has commissioned the inimitable Karl Lagerfeld to handle the tree design, which was unveiled last month. “Christmas trees are the strongest ‘souvenir’ of my happy childhood,” explains Lagerfeld.
When you find yourself hankering for a stay at Claridge’s, don’t let your fashionable side down – book the Grand Piano Suite. The glamorous suite is styled exclusively and elegantly by yet another globally renowned fashion designer, Diane von Furstenberg. With its marble fireplaces, sumptuous fabrics, hand-selected furniture and the designer’s own photography – everything considered down to the last detail – is done up in Von Furstenberg’s signature style. The suite also comes with a beautiful grand piano that’s just begging to be played – all you’ve got to do is ask your personal butler for Claridge’s library of music scores. So now you’re ready to step out in style, but didn’t pack properly for the weather? Burberry trench coats are also available during your stay. We’d say you’re pretty much set to take on London.
