With Watches and Wonders 2024 in full swing, one luxury watchmaker is making a splash with several new highlights. Panerai is catching eyeballs with a series dedicated to the upcoming America’s Cup 2024 races, infusing innovations inspired by the very powerful boats that are crossing oceans – check them out here!
Submersible Tourbillon GMT Luna Rossa Experience Edition
The proud partner of the Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli sailing team since 2017, Panerai brought forth one of its highest expressions of watchmaking expertise, the Tourbillon, to the fore and has created an exclusive timepiece to debut in July 2024 leading up to the America’s Cup finals.
The Submersible Tourbillon GMT Luna Rossa Experience Edition PAM01405 is limited to just 20 pieces and is a piece of engineering that combines the thrilling world of sailing and Panerai’s enduring craftsmanship. Further exclusivity that comes with owning this watch is for the owner to partake in a curated experience by Panerai itself during the finals of the America’s Cup in Barcelona – offering a unique behind-the-scenes experience of the competition as well as unmatched access and engagement with the Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli team.
The PAM01405 Experience Edition is the first Submersible in 45mm to feature the tourbillon complication and also the first of its kind to marry the complexity of a tourbillon with the futuristic appeal of Carbotech, a composite material based on carbon fibre.
The new Submersible QuarantaQuattro Luna Rossa Ti-Ceramitech PAM01466 and PAM01543
Cutting-edge and high-performance are the soul of the PAM01466 and PAM01543. The two new models of Submersible Quarantaquattro Luna Rosso Ti-Ceramitech come with the trademarked Ti-Ceramitech, a material that took seven years to make by the brand’s Laboratorio di Idee at the Panerai Manufacture in Neuchâtel. This was inspired by strong materials coated with ceramic that was found to generate the lowest friction with boats that have in recent years become faster and more powerful.
As such, the 44mm Ti-Ceramitech case was born and became the material used in high-performance competitive environments. Centrestage to these watches is the automatic P.900 caliber, renowned for its reliability with a 3-day power reserve. The models are water resistant up to a depth of 500 meters and have been rigorously tested including subjecting them to pressure up to 25 per cent greater than the guaranteed water resistance.
The PAM01466 reflects the spirit of the sea with its blue sun-brushed dial while PAM01543 comes with a white-matt grained dial. Both will be available starting July 2024 leading up to the America’s Cup 2024 races – while the PAM01466 will be available across all networks, the PAM01543 will only be available exclusively in boutiques.
The new Submersible GMT Luna Rossa Titanio PAM01507
An homage to the America’s Cup races that is taking place between August and October 2024 in Barcelona, the new Submersible GMT Luna Rossa Titanio has made its global debut during the week of Watches and Wonders this year in Geneva. This PAM01507 timepiece features its pioneering Superluminova X2 technology on indeces and hour hand. As its name suggests, this new feature ensures an improved grade when it comes to luminosity, a whopping 10 per cent higher than its predecessor even after 180 minutes in the dark.
With a Grade 5 titanium 42mm case, this new timepiece is remarkably light yet durable. If you need to put a number on it, it’s 40 per cent lighter and 60 per cent harder than stainless steel.
The PAM01507 runs on the automatic P.900/GMT24H movement – a caliber with a 3-day power reserve and a stop-second function for precise time setting. As such, its GMT complication allows for a 24-hour display, which is a feature reverberating Panerai’s models developed in the early 2000s. This is an attractive feature especially for those tracking multiple time zones.
