The Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong will be welcoming a Viennese trio from April 21 to May 1 on their first visit to Hong Kong, bringing with them the best of Viennese coffee house culture to serve guests a traditional taste of their Austrian home.

Sous chef patissier Johannes Warmuth from the renowned Café Central will be preparing a variety of pastries and cakes, including Apfelstrudel, Mohr im Hemd, Esterházy cake, their signature gâteau, and the famed Sachertorte, all of which will be available at the hotel’s Clipper Lounge and Café Causette.

To accompany these sweet treats, barista Wolfgang Eisler from Julius Meinl will also offer traditional Viennese coffee styles including the Kleiner Brauner, a steamed black coffee with a bit of milk; Wiener Melange, a coffee with frothed milk similar to a cappucino; Franziskaner, coffee topped with whipped cream; and Mozart Café, a double mocha topped with whipped cream and Mozart liquor.

Traditional coffee styles like the Franziskaner will be served at The Clipper Lounge

The manager from Café Central, Kay Froehlich, round up the Viennese trio, who will be on hand to demonstrate the best way to create your own Viennese coffee house experience. Opened in 1876, the Café Central is an integral part of Vienna’s history and cultural vibrancy, welcoming many of the regions’ most famous authors, while Julius Meinl is an Austrian coffee brand with an equally illustrious history, and today serves as a global ambassador for Viennese coffee culture.

The cakes and pastries are served as part of Afternoon Tea at the Clipper Lounge daily from April 21 till June 20, at HK$ 288 per guest or HK$ 498 for two guests. For those desiring a little less, individual slices of the cakes will be available at the Café Causette in addition to the Clipper Lounge. Whole cakes, including the Sachertorte will also be on sale at The Mandarin Cake shop during this period, ranging from HK$ 48 for a slice to HK$ 888 whole three-pound cakes.
