Fashion shoot: Modern family, Chinese edition

“You’re an adult now, your parents can’t tell you what to do anymore,” say so many non-Chinese friends to their Chinese peers. It’s testament to the hold Confucian values of filial piety and familial relationships render that piece of friendly advice moot to even 60-year-old children of 90-year-old parents over 2,000 years later. 

While tradition retains most of its iron grip over East Asian families, splinters are showing in this picture-perfect family dynamic in the face of modernity. Something looks askew.
