Curated by fashion historian Olivier Saillard, the Volez, Voguez, Voyagez exhibit – which is an international favourite previously shown in Tokyo, Hong Kong, London and Paris – is opening in Seoul tomorrow. The showcase retraces Louis Vuitton’s journey from 1854 to today, using archives of the family’s founding members and stories from those who shape the brand today.
Louis Vuitton and Korea have surprising links: their iconic trunks have accompanied travellers to the nation since the early 20th century, including Jean de Pange, historian and author of En Corée (1904) and archaeologist Josph Hackin, who participated at La Croisière Jaune, a daunting car race, in the 1930s.
“Louis Vuitton has always been at the forefront of creation and innovation, today like over a century ago. Constantly taking inspiration from our past we craft the trends of today. Olivier Saillard has immersed himself in the Louis Vuitton archives to decode its secrets. He delivers a fresh vision of our past, present and future.” says Michael Burke, CEO of Louis Vuitton.
Designed by artistic director Robert Carsen, Volz, Voguez, Voyagez tells the story of the House in 10 chapters— including one entirely dedicated to Korea. The exhibition presents objects and documents from Louis Vuitton’s archives, as well as, a selection of pieces on loan from the Palais Galliera, musée de Ia Mode de Ia Ville de Paris and from private collectors. Held at the landmark Dongdaemun Design Plaza – created by famed architect Zaha Hadid— and has over 1000 items on display, each one celebrating Louis Vuitton’s spirit of travel. An audio-guide and mobile app bring the exhibit to life in over five languages.
The “Volez, Voguez, Voyagez” Exhibition runs from June 8 to August 27. For further details see here.
