#legend100does: Hot happenings in February 2023

Feb 17, 2023

We’ve asked our community for the hottest events they’ve marked down in their diaries this month. Be it art, food or entertainment, our plugged-in friends know what’s most happening

“I like making simple things fun. I have three kids, so the less rushed we are the more quality time I feel like I have with them. Pizza is a big part of our lives. But I want to make it more of an event than just having it delivered. The Kitchen in Mui Wo is one of our favourites. It’s not going to win for its décor but the Roman-style paper-thin cracker crust pizza is fabulous. My favourite is the gorgonzola pear walnut pizza! And once we’re in Mui Wo, we rent bikes and tools around and adopt the island lifestyle. There’s a great comic bookstore nearby and a French bakery that always has lines around the corner in the mornings.

“Gaia isn’t new but before I moved to Hong Kong, I heard it was the hot restaurant. The pizza is traditional Italian thin crust and they use the best cheese. I just discovered it recently and love how I feel like I could be in Rome as we sit outside near the water fountain in the city centre.

“Since it’s gifting season, a shop I like to visit to purchase mine – whether it’s for myself or others – is NAAJ Studio. All of their soaps are made in small batches with healthy ingredients and energised. They smell like heaven! And whenever I feel like someone needs a pick-me-up, I’ll send them cookies from Dough Eyes. They’re vegan and so chewy and delicious that the dairy and eggs are not missed at all.

“I’m also very much looking forward to Hong Kong Ballet’s Coco Chanel: the Life of a Fashion Icon. Artistic director Septime Weber is invigorating the Hong Kong Ballet. His version of Alice in Wonderland was so vibrant and enjoyed even by non-ballet fans. Carmina Burana felt like religion. And I’m just really anticipating his ballet on the life of Coco Chanel!”

“I recently visited the Teppanroom at the Grand Hyatt, which was very nice. I tried out the seasonal seven-course dinner menu, which comes with both a wine and non-alcoholic pairing, and my favourites were the Konbumori oyster, Russian king crab in crab miso sauce, and king crab fried rice with fluffy egg white and soy sauce-marinated egg.”

“Leonard0 da Vinci once said, ‘Beauty perishes in life, but is immortal in art.’ I still remember the joy it brought me when I first dined at Estro – everywhere you look there’s art. And there’s nothing better than immersing yourself in the warmth of authentic Neapolitan food and the luxurious ambience designed by André Fu. I have a weak spot for pasta and so the star of the show definitely goes to the red prawn caviar and bottoni, which comes in a stunning presentation carefully arranged by chef Antimo.

For something fun and French, book the chef’s table at Caprice! Chef Guillaume will literally walk into the room with a jumbo-size red wine and start drinking with you!”

“I recently stumbled past Sow by Loft 7, a restaurant and bar on Hollywood Road that has some impressive cocktails! My favourite was ‘Alchemy’, a flavourful mix tailored by Elvis. Definitely worth a visit!

“I’m excited to start my fitness journey as an Animal Flow and Eurhythmics instructor. Connecting my music background with movement has always been a passion and the fitness community has been so empowering! Lots of good vibes for 2023 and so looking forward to visiting my friends and family back in Toronto for the summer!”

“Holiday season has come to an end and hence, time to get back into a healthy routine! The Upper House is hosting #TUHRunningClub the first Monday night of every month and it’s a great way to get a light jog in with your mates. Shelter is another fun group to exercise with. Plus, their runs are always tied to a good cause (and sometimes complimentary banana bread).

“After all this working out, enjoy Valentine’s Day in a sustainable piece from Allegory at Chaat. If you’re nice to the sommelier, he might even get you into Maison LeCercle after dinner!”
