#legend100does: Hot happenings in April 2023

Apr 21, 2023

We’ve asked our #legend100 community for the hottest events they’ve marked down in their diaries this month. Be it art, food or entertainment, our plugged-in friends know what’s most happening

JuJu Chan Szeto @jujuchanszeto

“I’m a huge foodie, so trying different eateries and cuisines is definitely one of my passions while anywhere, but especially in Hong Kong. From street vendors, dai pai dongs and local cafés to chef ’s tables, Michelin-starred restaurants and high tea at five-star hotels, I’m open to trying it all!

I also love hiking. I enjoy exploring different parts of Hong Kong to seek out new and interesting trails. One of my favourite hikes is going from Ngong Ping to the Big Buddha via the Ngong Ping 360 Rescue Trail. This is a legendary trail that runs parallel to and underneath the cable car ropeway. On it you can catch glimpses of Tung Chung Bay and the Hong Kong International Airport at a distance. The full hike from Tung Chung Station is about 8km while the trail itself is just under 6km. And the most rewarding thing is you can have the silkiest mountain spring water tofu pudding once you reach the top!

I’ll actually be travelling a lot this year for different projects and I’m so excited! I’ve just finished shooting an action film in Budapest, and after a quick Christmas stopover in New York I’m now in Los Angeles to take meetings for my upcoming film projects. I’ll then be flying out to Sydney for work before heading back to Hong Kong.

The Peak Tram has just reopened with a newly designed tramcar, refurbished terminal and upgraded facilities, so I’d love to take it up to The Peak and try out some new restaurants and attractions there!”

“I have a bunch of recommendations I’ve discovered over the past three months. For coffee and pastry, there’s Parabolica. It’s located in The Repulse Bay and it’s the perfect weekend getaway (be sure to go in early for the pastry). DELstore in Causeway Bay has a great selection of apparel and goods. For first-timers, it’ll take a while to locate the store but that’s all part of the fun. Then go to Desperate Infant Records in North Point for all the hardcore, punk records in the city. But make sure to check their Instagram for opening hours. For the greatest hotpot, vibe and people, I recommend Big JJ Seafood Hotpot in Central. Be sure to book a table in advance!

Lastly, I want to share the music I’ve been listening to that can go with the list above: Wandering by Pavel Milyakov and Yana Pavlova; ‘Raw Silk Uncut Wood’ by Laurel Halo; Water Comes Out of My Eyes by Moon Tang; Dummy Corporation by Actress and MK 3.5: Die Cuts | City Planning by Mount Kimbie.”

“I joined forces with Kipling to launch the Kipling x Victoria Tang collection last month in celebration of International Women’s Day and to encourage female empowerment all over the world. The collection is inspired by the concept of ‘ephemerality’ or ‘in the moment’; its essence is captured through versatile styles, gradient colour straps and pop colour linings. Live.Light is both a state of mind and a state of being. The collection is now available globally online and in 436 stores in 80 countries.

I’m also really looking forward to the opening of the new F&B complex by Leading Nation, Forty-Five, at Gloucester Tower. They recently hosted some of the best parties during Art Basel and the space promises to be a game changer for the dining scene in Central. My team branded The Merchants – a traditional Shanghainese-style restaurant serving great food with a killer view over the city and the harbour – and I also designed a large-scale bespoke hand-painted and -embroidered wallpaper for it. Keep a look out as Leading Nation will be opening up
a few other restaurants in that space too!”
