Matt Orr is a rising star in the world of football, currently making waves as a forward for Shenzhen Peng City in the Chinese Super League. Known for his striking prowess and dynamic play, Orr has earned the moniker “Hong Kong’s Cristiano Ronaldo” for his impressive performances and charismatic presence on the field. Orr’s football journey began at the tender age of four, inspired by his father, a former professional player from New Zealand. By eleven, he was honing his skills at the Kitchee Academy and later attended the prestigious IMG Academy in Florida, where he further developed his talent. His collegiate career at the University of San Francisco was marked by significant achievements, including a spot on the WCC All-Freshman team and contributing to his team’s West Coast Conference victory. After returning to Hong Kong and rejoining Kitchee SC, Orr made his professional debut in 2020. He transitioned to Guangxi Pingguo Haliao, where he became the club’s all-time top scorer before securing a coveted position in the Chinese Super League. His international career is equally impressive; he has represented Hong Kong at various levels, scoring pivotal goals, including a historic strike against Palestine that propelled the team into the quarter-finals of the Asian Games for the first time in 65 years. On the biggest influence this year:

“I think new challenges have been the biggest influence on me this year. It’s my first year in the Chinese superleague which was always my goal to reach. It’s been a big challenge for me coming into a new league and team and proving myself. There have been some very difficult moments which have helped me grow as a person.”
