JuJu Chan Szeto

Juju Chan Szeto is an accomplished actress, singer, writer, and martial artist. Born in Hong Kong, she relocated to San Francisco at the age of three. Chan has trained in various martial arts disciplines and represented Hong Kong at the Taekwon-Do (ITF) World Championships in Bulgaria, earning her the nickname “female Bruce Lee” among fans. Her notable acting credits include roles in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny and Wu Assassins. Chan holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science and mathematics with honours from the University of San Francisco and a master’s degree from NYU Tisch School of the Arts. In addition to her artistic pursuits, Chan is passionate about environmental issues and serves as a spokesperson for the charity Heroes2, which focuses on reforestation efforts in rural China. As she embraces motherhood, she draws inspiration from actresses like Gal Gadot, balancing her roles as a parent and an action star. This dual commitment to her career and family has contributed to her strong fan base.

On the biggest influence this year:

“At a time when I was going through a pregnancy fraught with complications, I came across Gal Gadot’s IG post where she had just given birth to a baby girl. She posted, ‘The pregnancy was not easy and we made it through.’ She being an action actress at the highest level (black belts in karate and Krav Maga, and having served in the army), I love that she still works while being a mum. It’s comforting to know that down this road of balancing motherhood with acting and action that, though difficult, it has been well traveled by others.”

What is something your followers might not know about you?

I’m a bit of a geek: I was a math and computer major for my first degree. I’m the first person my family calls whenever they’re experiencing technical problems with anything electronic.

If you were a brand, what would be your motto?

Luxuriously clean and healthy living.

What did you want to be when you were younger?

I wanted to be a performer more than anything else. I didn’t know if I wanted to specifically to be a singer, actor, dancer or concert pianist, so long as I got up in front of an audience and performed, I would love it.

Who inspires you?

Michelle Yeoh. I love her elegance that goes along with the courage needed to succeed at the highest level of our craft.

What has been your favorite memory this year?

Holding and breastfeeding my baby for the first time. Still brings tears of joy to me just thinking about it.
