If there was ever a reason to eat pie, it’d be #NationalPieDay. Falling on 23 January each year, we don’t care if it’s a made-up social media day (you won’t have to ask us twice to eat pie). Whether you’re craving a classic apple pie or spiked pecan pie, here are five Hong Kong pies to dig into this weekend.

Salted caramel apple pie at Teakha

Teakha’s salted caramel apple pie is handmade from scratch and only available on the weekends, so be sure to get there early to get your hands on a slice. While you’re there, why not have brunch first and finish off with a classic Masala Chai?

Banana cream pie at Butter Cake Shop

Having just opened their Landmark location in late 2020, Butter’s rich and decadent lineup of cakes and pies have become top of mind for Hong Kong pie lovers. One of our faves is their banana cream pie – a heavenly mix of creamy banana pudding, salted caramel, fresh bananas, mascarpone whipped cream atop a graham cracker crust.

Wholly Heavens Bourbon Pecan Pie from Tai Tai Pie Pies

Available in bite-size, individual, large and extra large pies – both savoury and sweet – Tai Tai Pie Pies has one of the largest assortments of pies in Hong Kong. Our top pick is the Wholly Heavens bourbon pecan pie, which is a spiked version of the original for an extra kick of flavour.

The 9-inch pie yields six to eight slices while the 9.5-inch will feed up to 12 pecan-happy pie-lovers.

Smokey key lime pie at Smoke & Barrel

Championing old American BBQ dishes, it’s only fitting that Smoke & Barrel offers not one but nine types of all-American pies – from smoky key lime pie and lemon meringue to triple chocolate truffle fudge, Georgia peach and raspberry almond pie. Each pie is available for dine-in or takeaway and priced at HK$400 each.

Apple pie at Shatin 18

Anyone who loves apple pie will know about Shatin 18’s famous version of it, which is made with a mix of Granny Smith and red apples, plus a bit of local Hong Kong Shatin honey for a perfectly tart and sweet taste. Tip: Heat it up in the oven and pair with a scoop of vanilla ice cream to bring out its unique apple flavour.

Apple crumble/pie at The Naked Bake Room

Okay, so it’s technically a crumble, but The Naked Bake Room’s apple crumble-slash-pie makes it onto our list for being #nakedlygood, which according to the company means preservatives-free and sustainably made. Drizzle with vanilla sauce or have your slice with a scoop of ice cream, and check out their other yummies including the mango and peach cheesecake, as well as the matcha red bean mousse cake.
