HKwalls turns 11 with a bang

Mar 21, 2024

HKwalls celebrates its 11th anniversary with its annual street art festival in Hong Kong and more

A work by Irish mural artist Aches.

Running from 23 to 31 March 2024, HKwalls is here to bring art to Hong Kong’s Central and Western Districts and beyond. Co-sponsored by Sino Group and the Hong Kong Tourism Board, and supported by eco-friendly paint products brand eicó, the festival promises an array of events outside of the usual public art murals that it is known for.

This edition promises exciting new experiences. First up is an exciting fundraising event featuring Bangkok’s top cabaret group Madame Rouge and local record label XXX on 22 March at HKwalls’ hub on the 22 floor of Soho House. Get your tickets to the cabaret fundraiser and party here. But if you can only make it to just the party, then make sure you book your tickets here. Either way, don’t miss out on the fun!

Of course, that’s not the only party HKwalls is throwing. There is a closing party on 31 March by Fader Crew, which will take place on the pool floor of Soho House. Before local DJ collective Fader Crew (consisting of John L, Crystal So, Tiga, DJ Shon and DJ Kendrick) get you on your feet with their turntablism, things will kick off with a complimentary drink on the 22 floor. Joining the party are Dreamxrs, a global artist collective founded by Frvnk that aims to connect people through music and art.

Satr’s smoky style draws from the boldness of Western graffiti and the delicate brush strokes of Eastern-style paintings.

But back to the art! After the parties, the Soho House spot will house the HKwalls 2024 exhibition. As part of it, the organisation is bringing in a number of world-renowned mural and street artists to Hong Kong, in addition to a lineup of local and Greater Bay Area artists.

The global artists being brought in are: Aches (@achesdub), an Irish mural artist known for his stunning chromatic portraiture; Hera (@hera_herakut) from Germany who is acclaimed for her narrative storytelling; Belgian artist Jaune (@jaune_art) who uses his background in sanitation work to create stencilled urban interventions; Michal Skapa, aka Tron (@traun834), an artist hailing from Czechia that creates large-scale murals comprised of tags and smaller hidden images; and Italian artists Alice Pasquini (@alicepasquini), known for using found materials to create storytelling centred on feminine vitality, and Uno (@idontcareaboutuno) whose art is characterised by use of various techniques in his murals such as decoupage, collage, and stencils. In addition, the US Consulate General of Hong Kong and Macau will be supporting American artist Rabi (@rabi__towing), a multifaceted mural artist that founded art collective Cyrcle and short art film series _gen+esc.

HKwalls aims to make art accessible to everyone.

Besides the exhibition and parties, there will be a Conversations series of talks, street art workshops, and public tours. These are all aimed at connecting the local community with an appreciation for the arts, while making the creative process of painting murals accessible to everyone.

Digital art has its place with HKwalls.

Then, there is an expanded offering of digital animation art pieces to check out. There will be five digital animation art pieces on Sino Group’s facades along the Tsim Sha Tsui Harbour, as well as additional digital animation art pieces showcased on The Emperor Group and Asiaray’s LED screens across Hong Kong.
