Chivas Regal’s “The Venture”, an international contest for start-up companies around the world, announced the winners for the 2016 funding prize on Thursday, July 14. Host of The Daily Show and comedian Trevor Noah had the opportunity to present the winners at the event. The main goal of this annual competition is to help entrepreneurs bring their business ideas and innovations to the world. The winners of the competition were each chosen for their new, fresh and sustainable business ideas, and were offered money rewards from the dedicated fund of US$1,000,000.
All finalists of the competition were required to take part in an Accelerator Week program at the Saïd Business School in the University of Oxford. After the programme, five of the finalists were chosen to present their ideas to judges Eva Longoria, Pernod Ricard Chairman and Alexandre Ricard.
After reviewing all the proposals, the judges selected Conceptos Plásticos from Colombia, EyeControl from Israel, Wakami from Guatemala, Coolar from Germany, and WeFarm from all its global sectors, as the winners of the contest.
Each one of the five final winners were rewarded funding money, with the highest amount of US$300,000 being awarded to Conceptos Plásticos, a company that converts plastic and rubber waste into materials that can be used for the foundation of new buildings and houses. Conceptos Plásticos was also rewarded an additional US$53,148 for winning the title of the most popular social enterprise from the public vote.
