Dior Men taps Travis Scott for first-ever musician collaboration

Jun 29, 2021

French fashion house Dior announced on Thursday it has collaborated with U.S. music artist Travis Scott on a full menswear line, dubbed ‘Cactus Jack Dior’.

Under the artistic direction of Kim Jones, Dior’s joining with Scott marks the first full house collection ever created with a musician.

However, Scott is much more than just a music artist. A style-icon in his own right, the creative genius outworks his design talents by way of creative collective, Cactus Jack, the record label that he founded, and has been serving as CEO, since 2017.

Under Cactus Jack, the Grammy-nominated artist and producer has partnered with some of the world’s biggest companies, Nike, McDonald’s, PlayStation and Tommy Hilfiger.  That’s in addition to establishing a fashion program with Parsons School of Design and scholarship initiative, via the Cactus Jack Foundation, founded by Scott in 2020.

While details of the Cactus Jack Dior collection were kept relatively hush-hush on Thursday, the men’s collaborative collection was finally revealed on Friday as Jones presented his spring/summer 2022 collection for Dior Men as part of Paris Fashion Week.

As models walked the runway inside Les Invalides, Dior house codes were mixed with Cactus Jack motifs. A series of large cacti appeared across the set, with cactus brooches and imagery featuring throughout the show’s clothes. There was also a new logo on parade, a melange of Dior’s logo with Cactus Jack’s. Elsewhere, Dior’s iconic Oblique pattern was reimagined to read ‘Jack’. Even accessories got the Travis-treatment, with a new version of Dior’s iconic saddle bag; now a two-pocket, mini-version with a horse-shoe handle. A pearl necklace with Cactus motifs and a bracelet with a Cactus Jack crucifix among other jewels and trinkets, also making a star appearance.

Having met six years ago, the collab between Jones and Scott isn’t the first business partnering. The Houston, Texas rapper worked with Dior last year, modelling the Air Dior capsule collection Jones created with Nike’s Jordan brand in 2020.

Dates of the Cactus Jack Dior collection drop are yet to be released. We’ll keep you posted. Hold onto your cowboy hats.
