??Willow Smith has confirmed herself as one of the fashion industry’s rising stars with a starring role in the new Chanel eyewear campaign.
The singer and model stars in the fashion house’s Fall/Winter 2016 campaign, shot by Karl Lagerfeld himself. The black-and-white close-ups show the teen in a variety of poses, teaming her lenses with multiple layered accessories from the Fall/Winter 2016 accessories line such as pearl and leather chokers, ribbons and feather boas for an attitude-laden, streetwise aesthetic. Behind-the-scenes pictures released Friday also see her having fun on set, sticking her tongue out at the camera and taking selfies with Lagerfeld. The message is clear: Chanel is getting younger.
The campaign focuses on the collection’s three main styles of ‘Vintage’, ‘Urban Chic’ and ‘Chanel Coco Chain’. Vintage, which was first seen on the runway at the Fall/Winter 2016 show, comprises octagonal oversized and frameless sunglasses made from lenses facetted and polished by hand. Light colors gently protect the gaze, lending the glasses a modern transparency.
The Urban Chic models fall at the opposite end of the scale, with butterfly shaped frames concealing the gaze completely behind mirrored lenses and acetates permeated with scrolls of black ink, signed with a baroque matte metal double C. The Chanel Coco Chain, inspired by the house’s famous metal chain interlaced with leather, features both cat eye and round frames and is topped with a slither of metal at eyebrow level and over the nose for a preppy edge.
Willow, the daughter of Hollywood star Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, was first unveiled as a Chanel muse back in March, when she attended the French house’s fall/winter 2016 Ready-to-Wear show at the Grand Palais in Paris. At 15 years old, she is the youngest ambassador for the brand, which also counts Lily Rose Depp, Kristen Stewart and Caroline de Maigret as part of its official family.
