Art Central returns with new sector for new exhibitors and artists

The calendar for art events in March is getting packed as Art Central returns for its ninth edition. David Ho looks at what’s to be expected

Art Central 2024 is coming with what it promises to be its “most extensive programming yet”. The event runs from 28 to 31 March and will highlighting established and emerging 20th and 21st century artists.

Held at Central Harbourfront, the ninth edition of the event is a short walk from the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre where Art Basel Hong Kong is held. It is at the midway point in Hong Kong’s annual art frenzy as it is also a ferry ride away to West Kowloon Cultural District’s M+ Museum and the Hong Kong Palace Museum.

One can expect Asian artists alongside global artists showcased by more than 90 participating galleries. A new gallery sector – Neo – will be launched at this year’s event, which will highlight first-year exhibitors who are showing artists that are also making their debut at the fair. The organizers expect to welcome over 40,000 visitors. 

In addition to the main exhibition, Art Central will feature an expanded offering of in-depth talks, large-scale installations, and the return of Night Central – a social highlight of Hong Kong Art Week bringing collectors, art lovers and visitors together at its dining terrace.Held on 28 March from 5pm to 9pm, it is set to attract the arts-loving social set and is a key event to see-and-be-seen during Hong Kong Art Week.
