It’s not quite summer yet, but with the ongoing cold spell here in Hong Kong, we can’t help but look at these luxurious infinity pools and dream of our next vacation.
1. Jade Mountain, St. Lucia
Resting above the Caribbean Sea, the 24 private sanctuaries at Jade Mountain in St Lucia each boast their own infinity pool that take luxury and sustainability to the next level. Each pool is designed to seamlessly merge with the rest of the suite and is tiled with one-of-a-kind recycled glass tiles. The iridescent nature of the tiles, combined with built-in fibre optic lighting displays, gives guests a truly ethereal experience as they take in views of St Lucia’s pristine Piton Mountains.
Hotel Caruso is set above the romantic town of Ravello on the Amalfi Coast, long known to be a hideaway for the Hollywood elite and the artistically inclined. Set in a classically restored 11th century palace, the hotel’s infinity pool is just a short ramble through a pergola of climbing roses and has a gentle set of stone stairs that lead into the warmed waters. Swim to the edge and look out to where the rocky coast and sea meet at sunset, and you will know why so many artists and celebrities have been drawn to this captivating place.
Outside Bali’s cultural heart of Ubud and amidst the tropical foliage hides the Hanging Gardens of Bali. It features villas fanning across the hillside, with all paths leading back to the resort’s centerpiece, a bi-level infinity pool and relaxation deck, canopied by lush vegetation. Above the rushing Ayung River, a high stone wall divides the two pools, such that one can either look down into the second pool below and feel on top of the universe, or gaze upward and sense the vast spaciousness that surrounds the jungle setting.
Hidden at the tip of its own island in the North Malé Atoll, the One&Only Reethi Rah villas offers the most intimate experience of the blue lagoons and white sands that put the Maldives on the map. Its dazzling infinity pool cuts into the lagoon, offering views of the neighbouring islands as the edge disappears into the waters of the Indian Ocean. If you ever tire of the pool, take your pick of the 12 private beaches, each separated by the dense tropical vegetation.
The Grace is perched high above the Santorini caldera in the picturesque setting of Imerovigli, surrounded by the island’s distinctive white sugar-cube houses. The hotel’s infinity pool, the largest in Santorini, offers a panoramic view of the Caldera that has defined any holiday spent on the island as well as the plug of Skaros, topped with Venetian castle ruins. The hotel is terraced down the cliff; carved into the black rock, the rooms are finished in white tones to achieve an elegant contrast. Every room is perfectly positioned for a sunset view of the caldera, and most have private plunge pools and terraces.
