Last week, Chaumet unveiled the newest additions to their iconic Joséphine collection at the luxury French Maison’s Elements boutique in Hong Kong. Titled Joséphine Aigrette and Joséphine Ronde d’Aigrettes, the new jewellery and timepieces are, like the rest of the collection, inspired by Empress Joséphine.

Empress Joséphine

Joséphine Bonaparte, the Empress of the French, was the first wife of Emperor Napoleon I. An aristocrat with a whimsical spirit, Empress Joséphine distinguished herself through her elegant feminine style in 18th century France defined by military rationality and stiff masculine aesthetics. The Empress was the first major client of the House of Chaumet and continues be the Maison’s muse till this day. She inspired the Joséphine collection, which is designed around the idea of transforming the tiara into a ring, characterised by flamboyant pear cut stones which the Empress was particularly fond of.

The new Joséphine collection

The new Joséphine Ronde d’Aigrettes collection plays with the recurring pear cut motif of the Joséphine collection through assembling differently in its pieces. The iconic pear cut can be seen asymmetrically composed in earrings and stacked on rings and necklaces, which can be mixed and matched with existing pieces in the Joséphine collection for a sophisticated look.

Also echoing the Joséphine pear cut is the new Joséphine Aigrette timepiece. A symbol of modern femininty, it comes with a pavé or mirror-polished gold case and a delicate bracelet without buckle, a staple for everyday wear.
