After the departure of Clare Waight Keller from Givenchy last April, the LVMH owned brand has appointed 34-year-old designer, Matthew M. Williams (founder of 1017 ALYX 9SM) as its new creative director.
The California native will likely bring his streetwear design aesthetic to the house. For those who don’t know, Williams has designed for Kanye West, Lady Gaga and founded BEEN TRILL with fellow designer Virgil Abloh.
He also collaborated with Kim Jones of Dior where he introduced and incorporated his signature buckle to Dior’s iconic Saddle bag. In addition to working with Givenchy, he will also continue to work with ALYX, which was founded back in 2015. Taking to Instagram, Williams’ crafted a voice note and wrote a message showing his gratitude and excitement regarding joining Givenchy.
“I am extremely honored to join the House of Givenchy. The Maison’s unique position and timeless aura make it an undeniable icon and I am looking forward to working together with its ateliers and teams, to move it into a new era based on modernity and inclusivity. I am grateful to the LVMH group for trusting me with the opportunity to fulfill my lifelong dream. In these unprecedented times for the world, I want to send a message of hope together with my community and colleagues and intend to contribute towards positive change.”
