A stalwart at Baselworld for many years, Hermès is making a switch this year by exhibiting its timepieces at SIHH in Geneva. The French maison might be better known for its Birkin and Kelly bags, but in the past few years, have done much to reposition itself as a high-end watchmaker, with the capability to produce beautiful timepieces like the Slim d’Hermès and more.
We’ll have more products to mule over at SIHH next week, but for now Hermès has shown us the sporty looking Arceau Chrono Titane, as well as the more fashion-forward Cape Cod collection.
The first Arceau model debuted in 1978, and is the creation of Henri d’Origny, Hermès legendary artistic director who joined in 1958. A round watch with unusual, asymmetrical lugs in a shape inspired by stirrups, the design is a nod to the brand’s equestrian roots. The new version of the Arceau today comes with a beadblasted titanium case, a chronograph function and sloping numerals.
The Cape Cod collection, with its signature square dial in a rectangle case design, came out in 1991 and is also one of Origny’s designs. New versions to be presented at SIHH this year include a version with a rhodium-plated dial, polished to create a mirror-like effect and coated with translucent lacquer with a mesh bracelet. Other versions include blue-lacquered or black gold-treated dials with “Anchor Chain” applied hour markers. All of the models run on Swiss-made quartz movements.
