For Hong Kong, the month of March has traditionally been pretty much all about art. But with the cancellations of major art events and fairs (most notably, Art Basel) due to the coronavirus, there’s a void that needs filling. Events aside, galleries are likewise discouraged to hold viewings for the time being, with the goal of limiting large social gatherings.
But the show must go on, says the local art world, even if it means that it will happen online. And thanks to Art Power HK, a newly launched online platform designed to bring us the newest happenings and events in the art industry, it most certainly will.
Including pre-recorded and live-streamed gallery tours, artist interviews, studio visits, collector engagements and online talks, Art Power HK hopes to keep the conversation going among talent coming from the art, tech and business worlds to feed our artistic cravings in the upcoming months.
Among the confirmed partners of Art Power HK are Christie’s, K11 Art Foundation, David Zwirner, Ora, Hauser & Wirth and Pace. The platform will also activate the #ArtPowerHK movement and host in-person events from late May.
“We believe that the arts connect. It is testament to both the power of the arts in Hong Kong and the city’s can-do attitude that partners from every sector of the industry have come on board to support the Art Power HK initiative.”
S. Alice Mong, Asia Society Hong Kong Center
“Art has the power to transform and inspire, and Art Power HK encourages audiences to engage with art in new innovative formats during these challenging times. As always, Christie’s is proud to be upholding the values of the cultural community of Hong Kong, one of the great art capitals of the world.”
Elaine Kwok and Georgina Hilton, Christie’s
“Art Power HK is a campaign that unites the arts, culture and creative industries and communities behind a common and shared message: we are open, we are active and we are ready to harness the power of art to unite, educate and heal.”
