So, there appears to be another reason why Justin Bieber was in Paris last month. In addition to holidaying with his petite chérie, Hailey Bieber, and a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron and wife, Brigitte, Bieber also booked a modelling a job in the City of Lights.
The pop star, designer and style icon has been revealed as the new campaign face of Balenciaga. The Parisian fashion house made the big reveal via its freshly relaunched Instagram account last week, after the account’s content was wiped on July 2, leaving it blank, despite accruing more than 11 million followers. A fresh start was needed. And, the storied fashion label’s fans can finally see why.
Bieber is one of ten models to showcase the latest co-ed designs from Balenciaga creative director, Demna Gvasalia. Sporting chunky dad sneakers (Balenciaga’s new Runner model) and clutching the black leather Neo Classic shoulder bag, Bieber looks like a veritable Balenciaga boy in a slouchy black leather bomber jacker with built-in hoodie, sitting over a plain tee tucked into high-waisted track pants; the cuffs tucked again in high-rise socks.
Shot by Katy Grannan, the digital campaign – shot what looks like inside an underground carpark with the roller-door as the backdrop – also stars French actress Isabelle Huppert (already a Balenciaga muse), donning the maison’s signature trench coat and heels; a much more elegant contrast to the louche streetwear witnessed on Bieber.
The remaining campaign cast includes Awar Adhiero Odhiang, Anania Orgeas, Isabelle Weldon Herouard, Minttu Vesala, Litay Marcus, Angel aka Emmanuel Culkin Mugisha, Abdou Diop, Taishi Suzuki, Hans Schmidt, and Eliza Douglas.
All items modelled by Bieber and company are available for purchase from July 23, via Balanciaga’s store network and online.
