When it comes to living through a global pandemic, it seems few things have a more unifying effect than streamable content. In the days of social distancing and quarantines, our shared pandemic experiences have become at least partially defined by the hottest shows on Netflix, from the escapism of Emily in Paris to the suspense of Squid Games.

Pandemic or not, Netflix is reaping it big time with K-content. In recent months, hits like comedy-drama Vincenzos secured itself in the top 10 TV shows on Netflix in the world throughout its entire airing. In contrast, recent releases like Squid Game have blindsided everyone in popularity — the survival drama is currently the platform’s most-watched show yet and well on its way to becoming a pop culture phenomenon.

Giving the people what they want, Netflix adds another original K-drama to its collection with Glitch, a new comedy-thriller drama, drawing on the talents of past successful shows. On the writing side, Glitch is penned by Gin Han-sai, writer of the popular Netflix original series, Extracurricular. On the talent side, the show features Vincenzoalum Jeon Yeon Bin, who plays the main character, Hong Ji. She tries to find her boyfriend after his strange and mysterious disappearance and befriends a group of UFO enthusiasts to help her in the process. Glitch will be jointly released on South Korean cable network TVN, which also brought us Vincenzo.

Joining Jeon is singer-actress Im Jin-Ah, better known as Nana of the K-pop girl group After School, Netflix hit Itaewon Class‘s Jo Byung-kyo, and Baek Joo Hee, who starred in So Not Worth It and Extracurricular. Also said to star in the series is Lee Dong-hwi, boyfriend of Squid Game’s HoYeon Jung.

While production was temporarily delayed in July due to Covid, it has since resumed filming with a tentative release date in December.
